Anyone attending hospitals for outpatient appointments or as visitors, now need to wear face coverings to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. These are also needed on public transport.

16/04/2020 – On Demand Remote BSL Interpreting Service.

SignHealth have teamed up with InterpreterNow to provide a solution, to fill the gaps in BSL interpreter provision in health settings and provide on demand BSL interpreting when it’s really needed.
SignHealth has agreed to pay for the service so that it can begin immediately. Deaf people cannot wait.

When people wear PPE it makes communication and lip-reading impossible and Deaf people are being left frustrated and isolated. We need to be able to communicate with doctors and nurses.

West Berkshire Councils leaflet, which gives information to help keep you safe during the coronavirus pandemic and tells you about help available from West Berkshire Council, is now available in Hindi, Urdu and Portuguese.

Books Beyond Words is a charity that provides books and training to support people who find pictures easier to understand than words. 11/03/2020 – Hand Washing Tips for People With Sensory Difficulties

Hand washing is crucial in reducing the risk of contracting the Coronavirus (COVID-19), but people with difficulties with sensory integration or sensory processing can experience aversion to the smells, images, sounds and the tactile sensations of hand washing; have problems with balance, tone or coordinating their hand movements; or not understand the step-by-step process of hand washing. Any kind of soap is really good at killing the virus. People can use whichever soap they find easiest, and some people may find an alcohol-based hand gel best.
