The Final Transition

In 2002 Mencap produced a report, The Housing Timebomb. It detailed how nationally provision had not and was not being planned for those with Learning Disabilities (LD), whose life expectancy increase now meant they were outliving their parents and carers in larger numbers.  Forward to 2016 and a group of angry parents and carers in West Berkshire feel this matter is still being ignored and no suitable plan is in place.   Today Healthwatch West Berkshire (HWWB) is launching a report, produced jointly with West Berkshire Mencap (WBM) and the West Berkshire Learning Disability Partnership (WBLDP), called The Final Transition – When Parents and Carers Can No Longer Care.   Created during a number of meetings with parents and carers, it highlights the broken promises and initiatives offered as potential solutions to this potential crisis, none of which have ever been delivered.
