Expansion of Community Mental Health Support

 Bringing Mental Health Support Closer to Home

Accessing mental health support early can make a huge difference. That's why recent national plans to expand community mental health services across England are welcome news.

The Government has announced a £343 million programme that will create additional NHS community mental health centres, providing earlier support and crisis care outside of hospital emergency departments. For many people, especially those experiencing a mental health crisis, receiving the right support in a community setting can feel more accessible and less intimidating than attending hospital.

Mental health continues to be a key issue locally. Recent feedback from young people in West Berkshire highlighted mental health and wellbeing as one of their biggest concerns. As services develop nationally, it will be important to ensure local residents can access support quickly and easily when they need it.

Healthwatch West Berkshire will continue listening to people's experiences of mental health services and sharing feedback with local partners to help improve care.
