Turning Experiences into Change
Our annual report is now published, and it highlights just some of the work we carried out over the past year to help local people have their voices heard.

One example is our work with the racing community. When members of the community approached Healthwatch West Berkshire, they asked us to help make sure their experiences of accessing health and wellbeing support were heard by the right people.
We listened, shared their concerns with key partners including the local NHS Integrated Care Board and the local authority, and helped bring people together to start meaningful conversations about change.
Bringing People Together
We facilitated a meeting where representatives from the racing community could speak directly with health and care organisations about the challenges they were facing.
This led to the creation of a multi-disciplinary group, bringing together partners from across health, care and the racing industry to better understand the issues and work towards solutions.
From Listening to Action
A dedicated engagement event followed, giving racing staff and health services the chance to meet, share information and discuss how support could be improved.
The feedback gathered helped services better understand the barriers people were experiencing and how they could respond more effectively to the needs of this unique community.
The Difference We Made
Through partnership working and making sure the community’s voice was heard:
Health and care organisations gained a better understanding of the needs of the racing community
Stronger links were created between services and the industry
Opportunities were developed to improve access to health and wellbeing support
The racing community now has a stronger voice in shaping local service.
