The government is soliciting public opinions on potential changes to incentive payments for GP practices to enhance patient care.

Currently, GPs receive incentives through the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and an investment and impact fund.

The Department of Health and Social Care emphasises the need for these incentive schemes to evolve in the best interests of patients.

The consultation poses questions about including improved patient access, which could mean allowing integrated care boards (ICB's) to set local GP targets, emphasising clinical outcomes versus overall patient experience, rewarding practices for reducing pressure on the health system, and promoting continuity of care through incentives.

Public views are important, and responses can be submitted through an online consultation survey until March 7, 2024.
