Finding an NHS dentist can feel frustrating at times, but there is support available in West Berkshire.

You don’t need to register with a dentist the same way you do with a GP. You can contact any NHS dentist in the area to ask if they’re accepting new patients. Even better, the local NHS (BOB ICB) is working with 36 dental practices to improve access to care through a scheme called Flexible Commissioning.

This scheme is designed to:

  • Support people who haven’t seen a dentist in a while

  • Help those with additional needs, such as disabilities or mental health challenges

  • Prioritise people who’ve recently moved, are pregnant, or don’t speak English as a first language

Need urgent help?If you have dental pain, swelling, or broken teeth, NHS 111 can help you find an urgent appointment within 24 hours—or within 7 days for less severe issues.

If you’re unsure where to start, visit the official website for more info: BOB ICB Dental Access

And remember, you can always share your experiences with dental services—good or bad—by contacting us at Healthwatch. Your voice helps improve care for everyone.
