 NHS Services Under Pressure During a Busy Summer

This summer has been one of the busiest on record for NHS services across England.

Recent NHS figures show that emergency departments saw record attendance levels during July, with ambulance services and 999 call centres also experiencing exceptionally high demand. Despite these pressures, waiting lists have continued to reduce and performance against planned treatment targets has improved.

While national statistics are encouraging in some areas, we know that local residents in West Berkshire can still experience challenges when accessing services, particularly during periods of high demand.

Summer pressures often affect multiple parts of the system, including GP appointments, urgent care services, hospital discharge arrangements and community support services, and feedback from patients is so important as it helps health and care organisations understand where improvements are needed.

As services continue to manage demand, Healthwatch West Berkshire is keen to hear from residents about their experiences of urgent care, hospital services and access to treatment.
