Faster Care, Fewer Waits – But Will It Work for Everyone?
The NHS is planning to launch a new NHS Online Hospital, a digital service designed to speed up access to specialist care and reduce long waiting times. The service is expected to start seeing patients in 2027 and will use the NHS App to triage patients, offer video consultations, and monitor people at home.
In its first phase, NHS Online will focus on nine conditions where waits are often longest, including:
menopause
menstrual problems linked to endometriosis
prostate conditions
eye conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma
iron deficiency anaemia
inflammatory bowel disease.
Nationally, more than 1.9 million people are currently waiting across these services. For local residents, this could mean quicker advice, fewer hospital visits, and faster diagnosis, particularly for conditions that can seriously affect day-to-day life.
However, there are important concerns. As NHS Online will be accessed via the NHS App, not everyone may be able to use it easily.
People without digital access, confidence, or support must not be left behind, and face-to-face care still needs to be available locally.
Find out how to create an NHS Account, and be able to log in to access health and care websites such as:
