Proposed Changes to Disabled Parking in West Berks: Have Your Say

Updated: Jul 25, 2024

West Berkshire Council is considering important changes to disabled parking regulations and seeks public input. Under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the council can create Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) to manage parking in council-run car parks and on roads. These TROs allow the council to set conditions such as:

  • Parking charges

  • Permit requirements

  • Time limits

Currently, the council is consulting on proposed changes to the Order for off-street parking in various locations, specifically focusing on disabled parking.

Proposed Changes

The key changes which have been proposed include:

  • Revising parking charges

  • Limiting the free parking exemption for disabled badge holders to three hours

These changes aim to:

  • Ensure a consistent charging regime across the district

  • Generate income for maintenance and enforcement

  • Improve availability of disabled parking spaces

Why Your Feedback Matters

The council is seeking feedback on the proposed amendments to ensure that the views of the public are considered. Note that the revised parking charges have already been decided and are not open for consultation.
